Author Rick D. Niece Journeys Back in Time through Joy, Tears, and a Mother’s Unwavering Love

CHANDLER, AZ (Summer, 2016)—Memories, like bubbles in the air, can shift shapes over time. But memories continue to improve in their perfection instead of vanishing. This is how acclaimed author, Rick D. Niece, Ph.D., describes the journey in his new book, Perfect in Memory: A Son’s Tribute to His Mother.

“Poor loser or arrogant winner. Favorite cousin or brother’s keeper. The roles in the life of a family are often connected by the strength and enduring memories of one person. In our case, that person was our mother,” says Niece. “It is a rare life that is perfect, but it is a blessed life that is perfect in memory.”

Perfect in Memory, the third and final book in the nostalgic and award-winning Fanfare for a Hometown series, is being released this summer as a celebration of the life of Niece’s beloved mother, Dortha Jean “Dodie” Niece. Written as a tribute to a remarkable woman, Niece’s heartfelt remembrances focus with tender reflection on the richness that makes life so beautiful.

“Prepare to laugh, to cry, and to have your heart warmed with the kind of indelible impressions that Rick D. Niece is known for,” said Linda F. Radke, founder and president of Five Star Publications, Inc.

Perfect in Memory represents the best of what a family achieved through the earnestness of their relationships, recapturing singular, iridescent moments that readers will wish were their own. Niece’s first two books, Side-Yard Superhero: Life Lessons from an Unlikely Teacher and The Band Plays On: Going Home for a Music Man’s Encore, have earned more than 15 national and regional awards. Perfect in Memory delivers the same uplifting reading experience, making even the physical end of one of life’s most important relationships bearable.

A lifelong educator by trade, Niece considers himself a small-town boy who has maintained the values instilled in him as a young man. He appreciates how his upbringing shaped his journey from newspaper boy, to classroom teacher, and eventually to university president. He and his wife, Sherée, served as president and first lady of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, for 16 years before retiring in 2013.

In further tribute to his mother, Dr. Niece and Five Star Publications are partnering with Arkansas Hospice to donate one dollar from the sale of each book to the program dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those facing serious illness and loss.
