CHANDLER, AZ (December 2011) - Selected from 212 applicants, Cheery: The True Adventures of a Chiricahua Leopard Frog by Elizabeth W. Davidson, Ph.D, was named a "Top Pick" in the 2011 Southwest Books of the Year competition. Cheery shares the winner's circle with 20 other highly acclaimed titles, each of them recommended by a panel of librarians and subject specialists as the "finest in southwestern literature." The annual competition is now in its 35th year.
"I am bursting with pride," said Linda F. Radke, President of Five Star Publications, Inc. "Cheery is not only a delightful, educational children's book, but it also represents the best in Arizona as an official Centennial Legacy Project.
The list of Southwest Books of the Year is distributed to public and academic libraries and select bookstores throughout Arizona. Cheery, the amazing story of one of Arizona's most unique endangered species, is of particular interest to elementary educators, environmental advocates, science teachers, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Arizona Game and Fish Department, who provided funding for the project. Along with providing audiences of all ages with a fascinating look at the lifecycle of an intriguing amphibian, the story also helps young readers understand the importance of being good stewards of the earth.
Cheery's author, a research scientist at Arizona State University, is readily available for media consideration and school visits.
